Two approaches to the party scene

One by Garrel, the other by J.L.

Sauvage Innocence (2001)- Phillipe Garrel

Three on a Couch (1966)- Jerry Lewis

The thing to do, I think, is to watch them both at the same time, with Jerry muted (or just turned down low.)

They mirror each other so often: the way the scene moves from outside to deep inside the party, from a couple to a group against the wall. And, in such different ways, they're both about their own artifice.

It's also clear in watching these that both Garrel and Lewis make movies that primarily showcase bodies moving in space.
