Still Away...
Century Plants in Bloom
Highlights so far: sliced green grapes in a white wine vinegar dressed green salad w/ frittata and a bone dry white wine, plus the 2005 Bordeaux that was picked up on a barge and the unforgettable 1998 Bandol Domaine Tempier that tasted suave and elderly, Suzanne's celebration cumin carrot salad with the slooowest roasted pork + green beans w/ marjoram, a garden party with the next generation of cousins, reunions in the tree house, successful experiments w/ beef stuffed radicchio and celery root gratin, cooking with chamomile, flaked red salmon on sticky saffron rice with shiso, weeks of a slice of Pain d'épices (made with teff flour) every day, catching eyes with a buck who was fleeing a rendezvous at a house in the suburbs, plus all the hikes & figs & wild fennel.

The Genius of George Stevens
George Stevens originally shot a scene in Alice Adams of Alice (Katharine Hepburn) flopping on her bed to cry after a party, but decided to shoot it this way instead.
Hepburn began an affair with the married Stevens on the set of Alice Adams that lasted until they shot Woman of the Year together (so, until she met Spencer Tracy). From this scene from Stevens' The More the Merrier, one of the sexiest yet still chaste scenes in cinema, you can see the appeal:
My favorite Stevens is the oddest, the sprawling and super-slow Giant that I once described as if Andy Warhol had shot Benjamin Button in reverse. The film ages Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson from this:

Have you seen her dressed in blue?
(She comes in colors everywhere)
An epic post about Mick Jagger and Keith Richards,
and their taste in clothes and women and women in clothes.
Evidence One: Anita Pallenberg:
Evidence Two: Bianca Jagger:
Evidence Three: Marsha Hunt:
Evidence Four Patti Hansen:
And then there's Marianne Faithfull?
Jagger and Richards could do good bad better than anyone. But Faithfull just looks... bad.
